Parrots are like kids, only with feathers.  They are so intelligent that they have
the mental capability of a three to five year old and many species of parrots
can live up to 75 years old.  Wow!!  What an undertaking for a parrot owner.
How do you keep your parrot entertained for all those years?

Parrots are a lot like kids because they are highly demanding and they need
“busy time” to keep them occupied and out of trouble.  The saddest thing for
me to see is a bird in a cage with “one toy” to play with.  Imagine, if you were a
kid in a room alone for many hours a day and only had one toy to play with.
How bored would you be?

The more toys a parrot has in a cage the better.  You are going to say “his
cage is only so big, where do I put all the toys”.  Not only can you hang toys
from the top of the cage, hang toys on all sides of the cage.  This will give the
bird ample room to move around and he will still have all his toys to play with.

One of my customers Carolyn M., with the help of her flock just gave me a
wonderful suggestion.   She suggested putting foot toys in any of the unused
food/water bowls in your bird's cage.  You can even buy an extra bowl to
attach to the side of the cage.  She loads the empty food dish with the
following items: blocks, soft plastic animals, other wooden or plastic shapes
including those left over once one of the birds has taken apart one of their
hanging toys, unshelled nuts etc. (Don't be shocked if your Bird decides to dip
a food colored block in some water and his feathers or beak turns the color of
the block) I think this is a wonderful suggestion.  When my birds pull down a
plastic part from their toy I check to make sure it is not soiled and I put it in
their pellet cup.  My Amazon "Kiwi" seems to move the plastic toy from his
pellet dish to his empty food dish.  I guess that is to let me know he wants
more food.

A variety of bird toys in your parrots cage is essential.  Pick toys that are
different textures and materials.  This way your bird is able to decide what toys
he likes best.  At FunTime Birdy, we have a wide selection of parrot toys so
that you can start filling up your parrot’s cage so he can be entertained and
amused for a real long time.
