Getting your feathered friend to eat healthy foods can be a very daunting task. Our Cockatoo Marshmellow enjoys her pellets like Caitec's Oven Fresh Pellets
and Harrison's Bird pellets
but eating healthy vegetables and fruits....she is as picky as they come.
All I can say is that it takes time and patience......it worked with Marshemllow. She now enjoys her vegetables and fruits as much as her standard pelleted diet. Persistence was the key.
Here are some great Vegetable and Fruit choices for your feathered friend as suggested by our Avian Vet (Dr. Wolf in Parsippany NJ)
** Best ChoicesMostly Vegetables
Dark Green Vegetables
Red or Yellow Vegetables:
- Peppers** (Any Kind)
- Green beans**
- Lima Beans**
Smaller Amounts of Fruits and Grains:
- Sweet Potato
- Beans** (Any Kind…kidney, navy, black etc. – Dried is also OK)
- Peach (No pits)
- Bananas and Plantains**
- Whole Wheat Bread
- Pasta (Raw or Cooked)
- Rice (Cooked only)
- Almonds, Brazil Nuts, Filberts, Walnuts
Note: Birds should not eat large amounts of meat, poultry, fish, cheese, dairy products or any kind of high fat foods (Crackers, snacks, cereals etc). Dried Fruit is often fried and or coated in sugar and is not healthy.
