Corella Cockatoo Plucked from Car Grille in Unusual, Delicate Rescue Operation

Corella AussieFirefighers were called to an unusual rescue in Echuca, Victoria, on Tuesday when a corella hit by a car ended up trapped inside the car’s front grille.  A local resident struck the bird while driving down Charlotte Street and continued on to work, about five kilometres away.

When the car stopped, the driver was amazed to find the bird was still alive wedged between the car’s grille and the radiator.
The Country Fire Brigade was called in to conduct the “unusual and delicate” rescue operation.
Firefighter Paul Nicoll said it was “remarkable” that the bird survived.
“We opened up the bonnet and the bird was sitting upright beside the radiator staring straight back up at us,” he said.
“It appeared to have an injured leg but otherwise was OK.
“We’ve attended a few rescues for animals in trees but this isn’t something you see every day.”Corella Aussie 2

The bird was quickly freed and taken off to a vet for a check up.

I am so happy that he/she is doing OK.  What a brave bird.
